Articles - RPG Theory
The 'split into pages for easier reading' links are the default if you click on the title of the article. The
article gets nicely formatted and split up into pages for easier reading. The 'all on one page' link is meant
for if you want to print out an article for future reference, as it's not the nicest-looking page ever :)
Developing advanced NPCs - by Kiko Sanchez
This is a short tutorial that explores ideas/methods to create advanced NPCs for your RPG.

Tile Graphics Techniques - by Jason McIntosh
A 'follow-up' article to Greg Taylor's Tile FAQ, this is another must-read. It discusses some, as the author sees them, flaws in the methods used in the tile FAQ, as well as elaborates on many of the topics. Definately something someone new to the tile-based game programming genre should look at.

Tile-Based Games FAQ v1.2 - by Greg Taylor
The *original*, must-read article about tile-based games. This will get you started if you haven't ever dealt with this type of programming before. Even though all the sample code is in C, it's not a big deal; all the concepts are there and can easily be applied to VB.

Smooth-Scrolling a Tile Map - by Jim Adams
This article by the guy who wrote the 'original' isometric map article is a very good explanation of an algorithm to smooth-scroll a tile-based map. Though, as with most of the 'rpg theory' articles, it's based in C, it's still quite applicable to VB as the concepts are all clearly stated and explained.
